UGA Period Project Speaking Engagements +3 Donation Drives!
Recently, I had the immense honor of presenting the work of The Elea Project to the collegiate organization, The UGA Period Project, which is a part of nationwide movement to bring an end to period poverty. In particular, I presented a keynote speech during their general body meeting virtually in which I presented to over 50+ college students. It was surreal being able to reflect upon my vast experience with The Elea Project, specifically community impact, as I seek to move in the direction of advocacy.
Additionally, I received 200+ kits, graciously supplied by The UGA Period Project; altogether, 3 donation drives were conducted at Our House Atlanta, Atlanta Mission, and Covenant House Georgia, with forty kits donated to Our House, 35 kits to Atlanta Mission, and 50 kits donated to Covenant House! Such exciting news, and I am endlessly grateful to the co-presidents of the project, Areeba Hashmi and Rachel Johnson, for enabling these drives!
From previous fundraisers, we have amassed > $300 to conduct donation drives, and, as the school year comes to a close, I hope to be able to disseminate products all across the Atlanta area. The primary goal of The Elea Project partnership with UGAPeriod was to close the gap in menstrual product needs between the Atlanta and Athens areas, respectively, and, needless to say, this goal was certainly achieved! We can’t wait to continue our work during the summer months in tandem with various non-profit organizations throughout Georgia!
Future Milestones:
One-Off Event: This summer, at The Elea Project, we plan on hosting a panel/podcast to discuss pressing issues in women’s health and global health, specifically in the realm of menstrual poverty destigmatization. Be on the lookout for announced panelists!
